Hair Care Timing
Hair is composed of many keratin (proteins), which are mainly composed of hydrogen bonds, salt bonds and disulfide bonds, and long-chain polypeptide bonds that maintain alignment.
All hair contains millions of disulfide bonds that give it structure, strength and stability. When all the bonds, especially the disulfide bonds, are intact and aligned, you have healthy, beautiful, shiny, smooth hair.
It is taken for granted that when disulfide bonds are broken, damage results.
Hair is damaged by various levels of damage every day. Those that cause you split ends, frizz, dull, dry hair color, thinning and frizz can all be related to broken disulfide bonds.
Therefore, if possible, try to do it before, during, and after. As long as the timing of hair care can be interspersed, you must do a full job of hair care with different functions.
1. Repair before dyeing
Help you wrap the damaged hair scales, avoiding the hair scales from being eroded and weakened too much when the dye cream is applied during the hair dyeing process.
2. Repair in dyeing
This is also the most important part of the hair care process! !
All types of hair (natural, curly, fine, straight, etc.) derive most of their integrity from healthy, properly paired disulfide bonds.
When hair is damaged by thermal, chemical, mechanical or environmental factors, these disulfide bonds break, forming individual hydrogen sulfide bonds.
After the disulfide bond is broken, two reactions may occur:
first reaction
A single sulfhydryl component is paired with a single oxygen molecule; it's a perfect pairing and no further damage is done.
second reaction
This is the key point that causes hair damage; one sulfhydryl molecule pairs with three oxygen molecules to form Sulfur trioxide [SO3], the so-called sulfite. The protonated sulfate is called cysteine, which then eats the protein out of the hair.
If sulfur trioxide reacts with water, it will produce the well-known sulfuric acid. Sulfuric acid can cause burns to the skin, eyes, lungs, and digestive tract. If exposed to large amounts, severe cases can even lead to death.
That's why we often appeal that hair dyeing is a very dangerous job, don't ignore it!
In the case of chemical services, good hair care products, such as my most used [OLAPLEX], the working principle is to pair with a single sulfhydryl bond faster than the three damn oxygen molecules, and then achieve no conversion into sulfur trioxide SO3.
3. Repair after dyeing
Porous hair is formed after chemical treatment. Filling and repairing immediately after dyeing can extend the stability of pigment particles, so that the artificially filled pigment particles will not be lost too quickly due to subsequent daily shampooing and various damages. , the formation of rapid fading occurs.
As for the follow-up daily basic color protection and repair, we will discuss it next time.
